One thing many of my real estate clients may not know about me is that I am a classically trained pianist. I’ve performed as a soloist all over the world, and I’ve collaborated with some of the world’s finest musicians and vocalists as a chamber pianist and studio artist. The piano has always been a very important part of my life, so I wanted to share a little more about my biggest passion outside of real estate.
My Music Beginnings
I was born and raised in Guatemala, and I was introduced to the piano at a young age. I went on to study at the National Conservatory of Guatemala, which really helped me hone my skills. Then, I trained at the Juilliard School, Salem College and the USC Thornton School of Music.
I make regular appearances at chamber festivals, both nationally and internationally. From Bend, Oregon to my birth country of Guatemala, I love any chance to perform in front of festival crowds. I’ve even been featured as a headline entertainer aboard several cruise ships and I perform regularly with local orchestra ensembles.
Memories to Last a Lifetime
Throughout my music career, I’ve been blessed to collaborate with some truly amazing talent like Lynn Harrell, Andrew Sords, Movsus Pogossian, the Calder Quartet, Martin Chalifour, Helen Callus, Jonathan Mack, Richard O’Neil, the Casal Quartet, Timothy Landauer, John Walz, the Miró Quartet and many others. It is always an incredible experience to see how other musicians work and continue to perfect their crafts.
I also enjoy any chance to teach and share my passion with up-and-coming piano students. I used to be Director of Keyboard Studies at Long Beach City College and have served on several collect and high school faculties throughout Southern California.
Getting Back to Performing
Unfortunately, Covid-19 has really hampered my live performance and travel schedule. I can’t wait to get out there and perform again and work with more great conductors, musicians and vocalists on new recording and concert projects.
It’s honestly been a little while since I last uploaded any piano recordings or performances on my personal YouTube channel, but here is one of my favorite pieces. It’s the first piece in a a series—my interpretation of “Gargoyles” by the legendary Lowell Liebermann.
You can also check out the “Music” playlist on The Durkovic Group YouTube channel for some more casual performances.
My Passions
What does piano have to do with my real estate career? Not much really, except that I am extremely passionate about both pursuits. I just wanted to let people know a little more about me outside of work. It’s important to have balance in life and nothing keeps me more grounded than when I am sitting behind my piano.
