Social Media and Real Estate—A Match Made in Heaven

Social media digital technology concept

Technology continues to change the way we buy and sell houses by streamlining and enhancing so many different parts of the real estate process. One of the biggest advancements in real estate technology over the past few decades has been social media.

Keeping Us More Connected

For all of its flaws and frustrations (I’m looking at you, trolls), social media has been a game-changer for real estate agents and their clients. It is another way to stay connected and keep people informed of what’s happening in the market. It’s a real-time communications resource while also serving as an archive for past activity and timeless information.

I probably don’t use social media as much as I should (there are so many incredible social platforms now), but I try to take advantage of the resources available. I have personal accounts, professional accounts and pages for The Durkovic Group on a number of different platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. I will include some helpful links at the bottom of this article.

The Power of Communication

I see social media as an additional way to keep in touch with my past, present and future clients. It’s more efficient than making phone calls or sending out emails/texts. I can communicate messages to larger audiences with my posts. Whether it’s a link to one of these blog articles, real estate news, local information or just my personal thoughts, it’s a great way to share ideas and stay connected.

Real Estate Benefits of Social Media

Social media is also a great tool for showcasing featured home listings. Home sellers benefit from this added exposure for their properties and home buyers can use social media to find great houses available on the market. Our market is moving fast right now, so social media allows for up-to-the-minute updates and new listings get the additional attention they deserve.

Of course, social media isn’t perfect. It also comes with its downsides with increased advertising/monetization, complex algorithms that don’t always work in your favor, and the aforementioned trolls who bring a lot of negativity. Still, the pros far outweigh the cons and most people are smart enough to weed out the bad stuff to stay focused on what truly matters. As a longtime real estate professional, I can say that social media has benefitted me far more than it has hindered me from a business standpoint.

I think social media and real estate are a match made in heaven. Follow me and The Durkovic Group on your favorite platforms for the latest Los Angeles/San Gabriel Valley real estate news, information, events and updates.
