Ever wondered how you could become one of those efficient, focused people? The ones that wake with a start, feeling refreshed and energized – and get their to do list done throughout the day? As the top agent at Douglas Elliman Pasadena for 2019 and 2018 and Los Angeles Magazine’s 2020 Real Estate All Stars, I’m often asked about the secrets to my success. How do I produce results that continue to make me a top producer? How does The Durkovic Group, with our high volume of clients, leads and business opportunities, stay so successful?

The answer to becoming an effective human being is through a set routine. Time blocking and calendaring are methods of implementing a set routine. Through effective planning and management, your calendar will help you set yourself up for success and allow you to reach your goals throughout the day. Here are four tips to help you maximize your calendar and time:

  • Create a Morning Schedule: Create a morning routine to start your day off right. Not a morning person? Once you force yourself out of bed early one or two weeks consistently, you’ll find it gets easier and easier to do.
  • Get Clear With Your To Do List: In the morning, set time to write down your To Do list. What is a To Do list? It is a tool that captures wish-list items to accomplish someday that gets prioritized in accordance with our goals and during a pre-set block of time designated for working on the business. Use your To Do list to prioritize what needs to be done during the day, the week and the month. Once you write down your daily goals and order them, set a time for each to be completed.
  • Use Your Calendar: Love your tried and trusted paper calendar? Or, are you a part of the digital revolution with Google Calendar or iCal? Remember, your calendar will only work IF YOU USE IT. Once you are clear with your to do list, it’s time to use your calendar to block out time in your day to get things done.
  • Time Blocking: What is time blocking? Time blocking is a time management method that allows you to see your day as blocks of time. From these time blocks, dedicate designated blocks to accomplishing your set tasks. This allows you to prioritize your task list. When you time block your day, you don’t have to worry about “What’s Next”. All you need to do is focus on the task at hand, within the time designated for its completion. Time blocking will allow you to trust your schedule, free your mind and be more productive.

Remember, if you want to be successful, you must be ready for your success. Scheduling your time through time blocking, using your calendar and prioritizing your to do list will help you reach your goals, faster.
