The Southern California chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art is an incredible organization dedicated to advancing the appreciation of traditional architecture and promoting classical art programs. Architecture and art are two of our shared passions. Both interests play an important role in our real estate careers. It helps to have a strong understanding of architecture, design and décor when working with our luxury real estate clients in the Los Angeles area.
The ICAA SoCal offers events, educational opportunities and unique experiences throughout the year. Here are some of their upcoming activities for June 2024:
King Gillette Ranch and Plein Air Sketching
June 8
The King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas was built in 1929 and designed by architect, Wallace Neff. This magnificent ranch home is a great example of classic Southern California architecture from that period. This event will feature a walking tour of the property hosted by David Rinehart. In addition, participants will practice the art of plein air sketching to capture the spirit and design style of this estate.
Behind the Scenes Tour of The Clark Library
June 14
The Clark Library in Los Angeles is a truly historic building. It was originally constructed between 1924-1926 by Robert D. Farquhar and inspired by French and Italian Beaux Arts styles. It is a cultural monument and an important part of LA’s rich architectural history. This tour will feature a rare look behind the scenes of the library, including stories about its architecture, arts on display and the people who were integral parts of its creation and preservation.
ICAA Members-Only Summer Party
June 26
If you aren’t already a member of ICAA SoCal, now is a great time to join. You get discounts on events and educational programs. Plus, you get to attend the ICAA Members-Only Summer Party. This year will be the 20th anniversary celebration of the Southern California chapter and will be open only to active members of the organization. The event will be held at Jonathan Club Beach House in Santa Monica, and will surely be a party you won’t want to miss!
Virginia Robinson Gardens – Morning Sketching Session

Whether you are an experienced artist or just want to practice your sketching skills as a novice artist, this is a great class to attend. You will get to walk the beautiful 6.2-acre grounds of the Virginia Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills. Then, you can enjoy a self-guided sketching session, where you are free to explore your artistic side and capture the beauty of this garden setting.
