When you live in Los Angeles, it’s hard not to feel some emotional connection to the entertainment industry. So much great music, films and theatre shows are created right here in our own backyard. LA has such a rich history of arts and entertainment spanning back well over a century.
There are a couple of great events coming up in early September that we wanted to highlight. Both are celebrating the magical marriage between music and film that we all love so much.
Maestro of the Movies
Hollywood Bowl • September 2-4
This is an annual musical celebration of legendary Hollywood composer, John Williams. He celebrated his 90th birthday this year and will be conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic alongside fellow award-winning conductor, David Newman.
You probably know several of Williams’ iconic movie scores from the first few notes. He has scored films including Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter—just to name a few blockbuster movies you may have heard of! Across three nights at the Hollywood Bowl, the LA Phil will perform selections from some of these classic movie scores. Film clips will be shown on the big screen while the orchestra plays for a fully immersive Hollywood music experience you won’t soon forget.

The Pasadena Symphony and POPS will be putting on a special concert performance under the stars at the Los Angeles Arboretum to celebrate several of the best musicals to grace both Broadway stages and movie theaters.
Songs will be featured from classic Broadway shows including Funny Girl, My Fair Lady, The Music Man and other classic musicals-turned-movies. The performance will be conducted by Pasadena Pops legend, Michael Feinstein. It will also feature several guest artists, including LaChanze, Tony Yazbeck and Lillias White.
