1. Set Goals that Motivate You
Instead of simply writing down “My goal is to have $500,000,” consider expanding on your emotional connection to the goal. Ask yourself “Why”? Why would $500,000 be helpful and beneficial to you? What kind of value will that amount have in your life?
When you create an emotional connection to why, you will have a more committed response in achieving your mark. To simplify, focus your goals around these main categories: Finances, Health, Mindset, Family and Career.
2. Set Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Bound Goals
Set Specific Goals
Your goals must be clear, well defined and personalized. In order to get anywhere on a map, you have to know where you’re going. Then, the path will become clearer.
Make Your Goals Measurable
Your goals must have points of measurable, attainable set points so that you can measure your success. Want to lose weight? Write the amount you would like to lose so to ensure you stay focused on your success and be able to measure it.
Set Attainable Goals
Challenge yourself in setting your goals. But, don’t set goals that overwhelm you or demotivate you. Setting a large goal? Make sure you create measurable, mini action plans to achieve steps along the way.
Set Relevant Goals
Set goals that are aligned with your life and what you want to achieve. Where do you see yourself in 1 year? 3 years? 5 years? Keep your goals aligned with what is important to you in your life.
Set Time Bound Goals
Give your goals a deadline. This will create a sense of focused determination to reach them. And when you reach them, celebrate!
3. Write Down Your Goals
Write your goals in active tense and use “I will” or “I am” statements. This method of writing your goals will create a sense of active intention – making it easier for you to imagine yourself achieving your dreams.
4. Creating a Vision Board
A vision board is a collage of words, images and inspiration that represent your goals and dreams. Don’t know where to start? Collect images on Pinterest (Pinterest.com). Or, get creative with poster board, glue, scissors and your favorite magazines. The possibilities are endless. Be creative and approach it with a sense of fun. Find images that represent the experiences and lifestyle that inspires you. Also, consider writing your written goals on your vision board. This will allow you to anchor your goals with visual representations, connecting your intentions.
5. Stay Committed to Your Goals
Sometimes, it’s easy to get distracted on the way to reaching your goals. Search your favorite for podcasts that will keep you motivated and on track.
