Located 20 miles East of Los Angeles, this beloved city at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains is known for its warm charisma and its strong sense of community.
With a population of over 60,000, Arcadia is enjoyed by many. Its beautiful neighborhoods are filled with lush trees and warm California sunshine. Designated a “Tree City” for seventeen years, Arcadia takes great care in preserving green space, which contributes to its embracing atmosphere. These streets might look familiar, as Arcadia is a popular film location. Movies filmed here include Bridesmaids, Wayne’s World, and The X Files.
In 2016, Arcadia was ranked by Business Insider as the 5th most expensive housing market in the United States and in 2014 was ranked the 23rd wealthiest neighborhood in Southern California, making it a highly desired spot for homeowners. The city has the 10th highest Asian Population in Los Angeles County, with over 45% of its residents being Asian.
Sunny, historic, and charming, Arcadia is a wonderful place to call home.
Shoppers love the convenience and quality of Arcadia shopping. The popular Westfield Santa Anita Mall is the perfect place to find your favorite fashion, beauty and lifestyle stores.
The palm tree-lined downtown Arcadia is considered the heart of the city. It offers great spots for shopping, eating, and fun. The city hosts great seasonal events here, like a summer Patriotic festival, a fall Halloween party, and a winter holiday market. The area is home to an array of small shops and local businesses, happily serving the city’s residents. Locals love to gather at the beloved Arcadia Blues Club, which is one of the best Blues Clubs in LA County.
Arcadia is also home to some iconic restaurants. One of my favorites is The Derby, an award-winning upscale restaurant that has been serving the community since 1922. Located close to the racetrack, The Derby attracts a lively crowd of horse owners, celebrities, and racetrack enthusiasts. Arcadia is also full of many phenomenal Chinese food options.
Arcadia is a family-oriented city with a lot to offer. Families love visiting the 626 Night Market, the largest Asian inspired night market in the United States. It features over 250 food, craft, art, game, and entertainment attractions.
During the winter and spring, the famous Santa Anita Race Track invites residents to bet on their favorite horse at its distinguished horse racing events. Notable events held here include the Santa Anita Derby and the Santa Anita Handicap. On nine occasions, the track has also hosted the renowned Breeder’s Cup.
The city’s fantastic location has beautiful trails for those who love the outdoors. The Santa Anita Canyon Loop is a favorite. The trail is known for its beautiful varied landscapes that encompass the serenity of the San Gabriels. And it’s a short trek to Sturtevant Falls, a breathtaking 50-foot waterfall.
One of my favorite local spots is the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. This 127-acre attraction offers serene gardens and a historical site with Native American, Rancho Period, and late 19th century artifacts. It also hosts exciting events for families including art shows, concerts, and gardening for kids.
Arcadia’s stellar school system is one of many reasons families seek homes here. On two separate occasions, BusinessWeek ranked Arcadia as the best place to raise children in the state of California, citing the city’s excellent school system as one of its factors.
The Arcadia Unified School District is nationally renowned and is a proud member of the prestigious League of Innovative Schools. The district consists of 11 award-winning schools and educates nearly 10,000 students. The district includes six elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school, and one alternative school and outreach program. A number of these are National Blue Ribbon Schools and California Distinguished schools. Since 2015, Arcadia Unified School District has hosted the Arcadia Innovation Summit, one of the country’s most recognized educational conferences.
The esteemed Arcadia High School prides itself on its many accolades, including being named a U.S. News and World Report Gold Medal School three times, being named on Newsweek’s Top Public High Schools in America list, and ranked by Niche among the top 2 percent of high schools in California. And, according to the Academic Performance Index, Arcadia high school has been recognized as the highest performing large high school in California.
The community’s generosity and devotion to their students was exemplified in 2006, when the city passed a $218 million bond measure for a modern refurbishment, completely upgrading and renovating all aspects of the schools, including arts and music spaces, labs, sports facilities, and libraries. Classrooms across the entire district received a high-tech upgrade, emphasizing the school’s dedication to providing the best possible learning experience.
